What skills do you want to learn right now? Is cooking included in your list? How about photography? Well, if you’d ask me, I’d love to learn self-defense, master another musical instrument (piano!), and speak another language (probably Chinese?). Here’s why.
Stories about murder, rape, kidnapping, burglary, and other evil acts have been filling the news section every day. In fact, it’s scary to go out late at night. That’s why it’s wise to learn self-defense. A lot of bad people are scattered everywhere, ready to hurt us for the sake of money, lust, among others. Yet, if we know a few defense techniques, such as kicking, punching, and blocking a punch, we have better chances of keeping ourselves safe always.
Mastering the piano
I want to master the piano so I can perform my favorite songs anytime I want to. Besides, it would be a great way to entertain my family and relatives during our gatherings. I can already imagine playing our favorite songs while everyone is singing along! It would be a great bonding experience. I could even teach my siblings or cousins a few songs if they’re interested. Studies have shown that learning to play the piano is not only entertaining. It’s also a great way to stimulate the mind, reduce stress, and promote an overall sense of well-being.
Speaking another language
Learning a foreign language is more than a boost to our resumes. Recent studies claim that it can make a person smarter, more decisive, and even better at English. Likewise, it opens new opportunities you might have ignored back then.
Each of us has different reasons why we want to learn a new skill. But by now, I hope I’ve convinced you of the amazing rewards that self-defense, piano playing, and learning another language can bring. Although learning these skills takes time and effort, the investment will be worth it.
